A Few Reasons Why

There isn't much to this posting other than facts and figures. But this might give you an idea why I made this decision for our family a bit more clearer.

Here are some reasons why we are homeschooling:
  • A stronger chance at academic performance
  • Keep our households beliefs
  • Social interactions in public school have poor spots
  • Greater opportunity to learn a large breadth of subjects
  • No more 'homework' since it is all schoolwork
  • The ability to take a break if we need to
Here are some interesting facts about Georgia's academic performance:
  • The state of Georgia has poor SAT scores, ranking 47th place overall, per Associated Content on July 12, 2010.
  • According to the Census Educational Attainment data from 2007, Georgia ranked 40th in those graduating from high school or more.
  • Further in that data, Georgia ranked 21st for attaining a Bachelor's degree or more, and 23rd in having an advanced degree or more. This isn't too bad, but we could do better.
  • According to NCES, the statistics also show Georgia at 40th rank as well. There were some other higher rankings, like the usual ranks for higher education versus ranking for having a high school diploma, but the overall is 40th.
  • According to Schooldigger, which uses data from the statewide testing and other valid sources, Gabe's old school currently ranks 267 out of all schools in Georgia. Not too bad, relatively, but consider that in the last year it dropped 133 ranks.
